The Musings Of An Opinionated Sod [Help Me Grow!]

When Constants Aren’t So Constant …

It’s funny how you realise how important a relative stranger was in your life.

I’ve just found out that my Mum’s next-door-neighbour [or should I say my next-door-neighbour for twenty odd years] has died.

He was a brilliant man … funny, happy, warm and welcoming … and as much a constant in my life as my parents, Nottingham Forest or my beloved Paul.

I hadn’t seen him in ages, and even though I knew he was ill, I am still absolutely shocked and devastated at the news … however it’s even harder for my Mum because not only was she his neighbour for 38 years, she had worked with him at the same company from before I was even born.

Slowly the street I grew up on – and had so many happy times – is changing.

I wish it was because people were moving away – but sadly it’s for another reason altogether.

Thank you for everything Gordon, rest well and say hello to my Dad when you see him.

On 30th January 2009, PSFK will open [for one day only] their ‘Good Ideas Salon’ in London in association with the AOR of newspapers, The Guardian.

PSFK will present a collection of their favourite forward-focused innovators and thought leaders and there will be discussions on all manner of things including arts & culture, collaboration, design, digital, marketing, mobile and youth.

If that wasn’t good enough reason to attend, the fact I won’t be anywhere near the place should be enough to ensure you rush out and buy a ticket immediately – so if you want to know more, click here.

Bush by you.

Great example of message and medium working together.

Well done Euro Sydney and whichever media company will claim developed the idea all by themselves.

… and this one is from the brilliant-but-kinda-weird, Scotty!

No, I don’t have the faintest what it’s about either, but lets face it, with an ass like that I doubt anyone was paying too much attention to whatever she was spouting.

Oi love, nature might be your playground but weather is your enemy so put some bloody clothes on before you catch your death out there.

What Is Love?

Hi folks … hope all is well with you.

First week in HK, straight into a pitch – and being the caring, sharing guy that I am [read: lazy and plagiarist] I thought you lot could help me.

Basically I need stories of love.

Not the sort of love you can “buy” or the sort of love that comes in the early throws of relationships – but the kind where you have put your needs/wants second to the person who is/was the object of your affection.

[Or examples where your partner put their needs/wants second to yours]

It can be anything – from reading a child their favourite bedtime story day after day after day through to cooking your wife/husband their favourite meal because they’ve had a bad day … I don’t really care, it can be big or small, recent or past … I just need examples where you demonstrated and/or experienced selfless moments of love and affection with a significant other, be it partner, child or parent.

If you can help, I’d be really grateful and if you’d rather write to me in private, you can email me here.

Oh and last thing, I don’t want to know about people’s sex life [well I do, but only to hold it against them] and “coming home” is not an acceptable response.

Thanks folks, really appreciate it …
