It’s funny how you realise how important a relative stranger was in your life.
I’ve just found out that my Mum’s next-door-neighbour [or should I say my next-door-neighbour for twenty odd years] has died.
He was a brilliant man … funny, happy, warm and welcoming … and as much a constant in my life as my parents, Nottingham Forest or my beloved Paul.
I hadn’t seen him in ages, and even though I knew he was ill, I am still absolutely shocked and devastated at the news … however it’s even harder for my Mum because not only was she his neighbour for 38 years, she had worked with him at the same company from before I was even born.
Slowly the street I grew up on – and had so many happy times – is changing.
I wish it was because people were moving away – but sadly it’s for another reason altogether.
Thank you for everything Gordon, rest well and say hello to my Dad when you see him.

Comment by andy@cynic January 22, 2009 @ 12:28 pmI am constantly amazed at the speed you can change from immaturity to sensitivity. You are the embodiment of “gemini” Robert. 🙂
