The Musings Of An Opinionated Sod [Help Me Grow!]

New Decade, New Career?

So now my life has hit a major age milestone – and I apparently become an official fucking dinosaur for adland – I’m guessing this is why I received this random correspondence on Linkedin recently …

Now I appreciate I really, really, really love my cat … but I have to say, I don’t know if I have all the skills or qualities required to become a professional vet recruiter.

Quite frankly, I don’t think anyone who loves their pet wants me to become a professional vet recruiter.

Though I have asked for more details … hahahaha.

[Still haven’t heard back from him yet though]

That said, with Leonel’s lateral thinking approach to his job, maybe he would be better suited to working in adland than pet-care-by-proxy. He’s certainly more qualified than I am … probably – and sadly – in either job.

I don’t know about you but I’m impressed.

And very, very scared.

Maybe you could put animals to sleep by reading them strategy decks you’ve written? Maybe that’s not humane.

Maybe you can be the test subject, you little rat, hahaha.

Comment by Rob

youre going to fucking regret that comment baz.

I agree with Andrew.

I feel I’m being set up here.

Comment by Bazza

youre doing it all on your fucking own.

I know people say sales is a numbers game, but this is impressive.

Also known as the linkedin recruiter strategy.

Comment by Pete

Isn’t that the truth. The amount of recruitment people who have either reached out to me about jobs I am totally not suitable for or asked me for names of people they should reach out – thus doing their job for them – is incredible.

Comment by Rob

You answer them back don’t you?

Comment by George

As you say Rob, it’s more innovative thinking than a lot of media people I know would have suggested.

Comment by Pete

If a media strategist suggested this approach you would be calling me to tell me about the worst media strategy recommendation you’d ever had.

Comment by George

George for the win.

Comment by Rob

Fair.

Comment by Pete

Pete for the loss.

Comment by Bazza

Thanks for the support Baz.

I admire the lateral thinking, but that doesn’t mean you can do any old shit and claim you’re thinking ‘out the box’ … which is a phrase that aways bugs me, because it is the most cliched way of saying you’re being original.

Or maybe that’s just me.

Comment by Rob

Not just you.

The recruitment industry is the worst thing ever created. It has no redeeming features.

they make car sales and double glazing pricks look decent.

Comment by andy@cynic
