Regardless whether you think the above front pages are good, bad or just plain tacky … they demonstrate how a headline and photograph – when executed with attitude and a point of view – can grab the attention of the masses and motivate them to ‘find out more’.
Maybe more ad agencies and clients should remember this when they produce wallpaper communication with an over-reliance on production values and photo/image manipulation.

Well played on getting Kato in your blog. Surely the greatest movie character ever, with the possible exception of Jar Jar Binks of course, or maybe Chunk from the Goonies.
Comment by NP April 17, 2007 @ 4:07 pmKato is the host of unreality television show ‘Eye For An Eye’ … a program so bad, it makes Jerry Springer, look like Newsnight!
I love it.

Comment by Marcus April 17, 2007 @ 4:15 pm“When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out… But the worst thing I ever done – I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa – and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life.”
I.love.that.movie.
Comment by Age April 17, 2007 @ 4:16 pmUndoubtably the funniest monologue in film.
Shame I was too young to laugh at the name ‘One Eyed Willie’
Comment by NP April 17, 2007 @ 4:30 pmI love good copywriting, and an attention grabbing headline is a vital part of that.
Comment by Rob Mortimer April 17, 2007 @ 4:45 pmI knew a guy who created some of the most ‘memorable’ headlines for The Sun and he was paid – compared to a middle/senior copywriter – peanuts … and yet he made a bigger impression on culture than most ad people could ever dream of.
We don’t know we’re born!
Comment by Rob April 17, 2007 @ 4:54 pmIts the one thing I respect about the Sun, they understand the importance of good copy.
Well, you say “we”, im not in the industry yet!
Comment by Rob Mortimer April 17, 2007 @ 5:01 pmWell you fucking should be … and because of that, you get lumped in with us fools! Alright? 🙂
Comment by Rob April 17, 2007 @ 5:03 pm“Headless Body in Topless Bar” is VERY good isn’t it.
Comment by Marcus April 17, 2007 @ 5:05 pmBloody genius …
Sort of makes me almost like Rupert Murdoch for pushing this sort of shocko-journo stuff. I did say ‘almost’.
Comment by Rob April 17, 2007 @ 5:13 pmFair enough I guess..!
Indeed it is Marcus. Though Topless body in Headless Bar would be weirder…
