When We Talk Of Heroes, JK Rowling Is One Of My Biggest …

It’s been a great first week for me at R/GA, so I’m going to do something crazy and end the week on a positive.

JK Rowling is a hero of mine.

Not just because she got more kids to read books than all government education departments put together.

Not just because she created a story that addresses issues kids may face and help them believe they can beat it.

[EG: Voldemort is based on the feelings you get when suffering ‘depression’]

Not just because she persevered when everyone around her was turning their back on her.

Not just because she’s smart, funny and stands up for what she believes in.

But because of this …

If it’s not amazing enough that she made over a billion pounds from her work, I find it even more amazing that she is no longer a billionaire because of her charitable donations.

But the thing that makes me smile is that Forbes describes her loss of billionaire status as ‘falling off’, when I am pretty sure if you asked JK Rowling, she would say ‘intentionally demoted herself’.

At a time where many people are given ‘hero’ status, JK Rowling is one of them that I think is truly worthy of that title.

How’s that way to end the week!?

An excellent way to end the week. I hope it has been a very enjoyable one for you Robert.

She is a phenomenal human being who is committed to helping others. Stark contrast with yesterdays blog subject, Gary Vee, who is only committed to helping himself.

A lot of people seem to disagree with me on this but I think you have nailed the difference – not just between Mr V and JK Rowling – but true authenticity and the illusion of it.

It is also interesting everyone thinks they know Nike until they work on Nike.

Comment by George

campbell has worked on nike longer than a fucking dinosaur so your argument is fucked.

For what it is worth, I like the end of the week positivity.

Comment by George

Indeed.
I particularly admire her intelligence to have the series grow up with it’s readers instead of staying in a singular place.

Has England turned you in to positive Rob? That would be an unexpected turn of events but then it’s hard to not be positive about J K.

Your point about Forbes is funny because I bet there are many wealthy people who would look at what she’s doing and think the same. She’s not even asking for her name to be attached to the projects she helps which seems to be the common approach to wealthy acts of (ego) generosity.

Maybe it’s because she has never seemingly defined herself by her wealth but whatever her motivation, she’s more of an inspiration than many the media place on a pedestal.

Excellent end of the week
I left Kings Cross an hour ago and every time I love seeing the happy tourists getting their photo taken at platform 9 3/4.
That’s bloody great, and this wasn’t the point but no sodding brand can do that, not even my beloved Yorkshire tea

It’s also an excellent week because I have left London
