Will Apple Survive Without Jobs?

… obviously the answer is yes, so can we all move on and start asking some questions that have some real fucking merit.

Seriously, these sort of ‘shock headlines’ give me the fucking shits.

Maybe Apple will suffer in the future without Jobs guiding hand [or, should I say, iron rod] but they’re not going to implode in the next fucking week, any more than Ford collapsed in a heap the moment ol’ Henry popped his clogs.

On top of that, Jobs is still involved with the company, even if he’s not CEO, so let’s stop thinking we’re being clever fuckers for discussing this, because we’re not – what we are doing is showing [1] we’re commercial amateurs and [2] we’re ignorant … because on top of the fact they’ve been educating their stupidly clever folk in ‘the way of Steve’ for over a decade, I’m pretty sure Apple have been giving this situation serious thought for oooooooh, only about the last 10 bloody years.

And for the record, Virgin will survive without Branson, Facebook will survive without Zuckerberg and Google will survive without Sergey and Larry.

Thank you, I feel much better now.

Blatant career maneuvering disguised as a discussion of a company you don’t work for. Devious even by your standards.

It was “amusing” to see how many social media A listers commented on the Apple press release without having read it. The time lag from Apple’s in trouble to Jobs will be staying as chairman was about ten minutes.

Comment by john

What is a social media ‘A-lister’ when it’s at home? Is it like the old adage that those who can’t, blog?

Comment by Rob

And yes, I did see the irony of my last comment.

Comment by Rob

cock.

too fucking right doddsy. crawling and creeping like a bastard to the fuckers he knows work at each of those places. pity hes forgotten theyre all semi clever so wouldnt touch him with a fucking tazer. waste of whoring himself.

Comment by andy@cynic

I was thinking of his current employers.

Comment by john

if theyve got any fucking sense theyd not of hired him in the first fucking place.

I think there’s a couple of people in the Portland empire that may be nodding in agreement with you at this exact second.

Comment by Rob

about fucking time. whod you piss off? some portland underling or the big boys. im assuming the big boys, where insulting is concerned you have always had the highest of fucking standards.

Comment by andy@cynic

nice post header campbell. sick and sueable, but nice.

Comment by andy@cynic

wave goodbye to your free apple shit meal ticket.

baz. hope youve noticed ive not said any shit about jobsy. a few iphone 5s and we can call it evens. remember without me you would be fuck all.

Comment by andy@cynic

Well said Rob. The media and blogs I’ve read since he stepped down have been ridiculous, basically implying Apple haven’t thought about succession plan at all. Jobs may be more of a driving force behind his company than other high profile founders, but he assembled a great team around him and to make statements questioning Apple’s future is embarrassing, especially when his involvement with the company will remain, at least in the short term.

By the way, have you heard of the tech magazine that is urging its readers to honor Steve Jobs by turning Friday’s into “dress like Steve Jobs day”. I kid you not.

Comment by Pete

Black turtleneck and jeans? That would be possibly the most insulting compliment I’ve ever heard … well, unless there’s a “wear birkenstock day” for me, which let’s face it [1] won’t happen and [2] would never happen even if someone [namely me] suggested it.

Comment by Rob

if i see some fucker wearing a black turtleneck, ill-fitting fucking jeans and some john lennon specs i will fucking smack the bastard. jobs might be a fucking genius but his dress sense makes campbell look like paul fucking smith.

Comment by andy@cynic

Of course Apple will survive without SJ, but it sure as fuck won’t continue on its current trajectory. It will slow down, we all will.

Comment by Ciaran McCabe

To be honest Ciaran, it probably wouldn’t continue on it’s current trajectory even if Steve Jobs was still CEO.

While people like errrrrm, me – continue to purchase upgrades of their existing product portfolio, the reality is in terms of bringing out totally new offerings, they seem to have slowed down considerably over the years which means that if they wish to maintain the growth they’ve had over the last 5-10 years while sticking to their ‘upgrade’ strategy, they will need to acquire more idiots like errrrrm, me, to keep ‘upgrading’, find new territories to sell their products in or manage their production process even more efficiently.

Comment by Rob

stop trying to sound clever campbell, it doesnt fucking suit you.

Comment by andy@cynic

Who is Steve Jobs and why is everyone upset about a bloke that sells fresh fruit?

Comment by Billy Whizz

hes got a banana he can fucking stick somewhere special for you.

Comment by andy@cynic

Jobs would never have one of his products as a gravestone because he’d look out of date within 12 months. Personally I think he should have an apple newton for a gravestone because I spent 1000 bucks on that piece of shit and want some sort of payback.

Comment by DH

you kept that fucking fact quiet you early adopting techy twat.

Comment by andy@cynic

Yes he did Andy, he kept that very quiet.

Even I didn’t stoop that low Dave – and that’s saying something.

Comment by Rob

On the other hand, those photos of Mr Jobs from the 70’s were highly amusing.

hello.

If the founder is solely a micromanager, the business will suffer when they leave (as evidenced by lots of family businesses). If they embody and evangelise the business’s purpose and competitive advantage, it has a better chance of smooth succession. I’m not sure all the founders you list fit the latter category, but Apple does.

hello, John.

A very good afternoon to you, Marcus.

Comment by john

Hello Marcus. How are you?

Comment by Rob

Hello Rob. All dandy here in Munich. How are you?

Comment by Marcus

I’m not saying the business won’t suffer – it might – however contrary to what many are saying or at least implying in their blogs or media columns, I don’t believe Apple will die, at least in the short-to-mid term.

As for whether the founders I listed are as evagelical as Jobs, the answer is a resounding ‘no’ [though some are but in different ways and to different audiences[ however I’d say they all have a strong influence on their respective organisations and yet I still believe they will continue to prosper should they end up pissing off and leaving the business they created.

That’s all I’m saying, nothing more but I do appreciate what you’re saying in your very serious comment.

Comment by Rob

I don’t know what came over me. It won’t happen again.

Comment by john

I liked it – my only concern is the damage it could do to your credibility, but if you cared about that, you wouldn’t be on here in the first place would you.

Comment by Rob

Given the state apple were in when jobs came back i can see why there doubts; but this is not the same apple as back then.
