After some gentle nudging, NP has written a wonderful post about how his first few weeks of Fatherhood has changed/enhanced him.
It’s sensitive, beautiful, gentle and insightful and I’m a better person for reading it.
That NP is a good man in every way. Bastard.
This is where I could go on a massive rant about how badly men are being reflected in mainstream communication and media, but that’s something for another day, especially as I need to think how I write it so it doesn’t come across as some ‘anti-women / pro man’ sexist rubbish.
So go and read NP’s magic and if in 9 months there’s a glut of babies being born, we know who to blame 🙂
Have a top weekend.

Comment by rafik November 27, 2009 @ 7:37 amnever mind, my browser was being stupid.Yes, my browser.
Nice post over at Northern Planner’s blog regardless
Comment by rafik November 27, 2009 @ 7:39 amI don’t know why I’m writing my comment here instead of on Northern’s post but it is wonderfully written and I really liked how you can feel his fatherly pride, fear and responsibility through every word.
Nice one Mr Northerner, lucky man with a lucky son.
Comment by Pete November 27, 2009 @ 7:58 amIt might be crass bringing Northerner’s post about his son back to planning but your comment on his post is true, hearing how someone feels after such a major event should be the sort of thing planners are interested in even if they don’t have a client operating in the category of new born babies or a child of their own.
‘Variety is the spice of life’ should be the mantra for planners.
Comment by Pete November 27, 2009 @ 8:06 amIt’s wrong to be sexist? It’s political correctness gone mad.
Nice kid NP. Great hair.
Comment by Billy Whizz November 27, 2009 @ 8:22 amAll I ever do on this blog is agree with someone who said what I wanted to say before me and today is no exception because NP’s kid has awesome hair.
Any reason why he has the same mouth as Shiloh Jolie Pitt? Is this why NP said he will only be staying loyal to TBWA for a while longer? We have a right to know the truth.
Nice post NP.
Comment by Bazza November 27, 2009 @ 8:31 amNP’s son DOES have a mouth like Shiloh … well spotted you trash magazine reader Baz. Of course he is very masculine, he just has the sort of mouth all male models would kill for. I tell you something else he’s got that is cool … a bunch of hair that is somehow growing into a modern style. Whereas most people have to pay huge amounts to try and have ‘rock star’ hair, NP’s little boy is actually having it grown into that style naturally … the boy is going to be famous!
OK, enough of all this – the other reason I like NP’s post so much is that he is describing things that he is seeing/feeling for the first time. I don’t know how old he is – but like the time I asked Jill’s parents if I could marry her – it was a situation that was totally new despite having lived for well over 30 years.
Given I have always been in awe of kids when they cast their eyes on something we take for granted for the very first time … it’s cool to know that life still has some surprises we can unearth as we get older.

Comment by John November 27, 2009 @ 9:07 amThese days its your throwaway comments I find more interesting. You’re right. Hadn’t thought of it but so little mainstream media is positive about the male role. Write that post
…and don’t put “to be honest” ANYWHERE in it or I will tear my pubes out.
Comment by Charles Frith November 27, 2009 @ 9:55 amHere you go Charles. From yesterday’s Times.

Comment by John November 27, 2009 @ 4:52 pmHis mouth looks like his Grandma’s.
Comment by northern November 27, 2009 @ 8:27 pmHis hair even has highlights would you believe. Let’s hope he continues to take after my wife’s family on the hair front, rather than his Dad (not to mention my short shins)
Your granny is Angelina!!! I like you even more NP!
PS: Yes Charles, you’re right – apologies for the last 4 years, ha!
