Why Didn’t A Razor Company Think Of This To Show How Good Their Blades Are?

… it wouldn’t of cost much … probably just a few flights, a couple of grand spending money and a bloody digital camera.

Mind you, it could have also been made to work for SONY Cybershot, Lonely Planet or Virgin Airlines with a little tweaking.

OK, so the ‘production time’ would be quite long … but for the investment needed to create something you’d actually watch, be engaged by and talk to others about, I would say it’s probably a damn sight more cost effective than those fucking Gillette ‘The Best A Man Can Get’ bollocks, featuring a bunch of sport stars whose faces are so naturally babyish looking, you doubt they’ve even got hair on their bollocks, let alone on their face.

Saying that I do have a bigger question and that is how come a bloke can go without shaving or cutting his hair for so long and still not look anything like a member of ZZ Top.

Big girls blouse …

this is the 2nd day in a row youve somehow managed to write a post with a semi decent thought in it without the aid of my involvement.

whose helping you? its fucking aunty george isnt it? well tell him not to bother because as usual you stop anyone from fucking noticing it or discussing it by throwing in some twisted campbell bollocks about zz fucking top.

queen is bad enough but those hairy 3some? what the fuck made me align with you? if i dont get made a saint then im calling in the fucking fucked up lawyers.

2/1 a brand does something like youre suggesting within 12 months. not just including me.

fucking awesome video!

leave it to regular people to come up with the most creative, inspiring stuff…

Comment by Age

I know what you’re saying Age, but I don’t know if this guy represents ‘normal people’ … he might not [or maybe he does] work in the ‘creative industry’ but when you look at all the talent compeitions that supposidly attract Mr & Mrs Average [which in itself is debatable] you realise what he has done is at a very different level to what the masses deem and do as ‘creative’.

It’s even more apparent when you think about the ads the masses say are good in focus groups. πŸ™‚

Whilst I believe everyone can be creative, I don’t believe everyone’s creativity is of a standard worthy of mass acclaim/praise/celebration which is why I agree with Woody Allen when he says if we’re not careful, we’ll be a World filled with average poets, ha!

And Andy, I would have thought you’d like ZZ Top … afterall you’re both men who are growing old disgracefully, both men who associate with women out your league and both men who are attracting a more discerning ‘fan base’, ha!

Comment by Rob

BTW Andy, I actually hope adland doesn’t take this clip as inspiration for a future campaign for someone – there’s already an over-reliance on YouTube clips for ideas and it would be nice if they/we started creating new stuff rather than simply exploiting someone elses hard work and creativity.

In other words, it might be nice if we earnt the right to claim we are creative rather than just keep telling ourselves we’re that way.

Comment by Rob

those germans. what can you say πŸ™‚

Comment by peggy

twat.

im not calling you that because youre comparing me to those hairy, lairy fuckers but because lee will ask why the fuck we didnt come up with this idea for va.

and fuck you for comparing me to zz twat.

Comment by andy@cynic

i can say a fucking lot peggy starting with cut your fucking hair and get a fucking job.

fuck me am i norman tebbit in disguise? (dont worry about not knowing who he is peggy, he wasnt worth the effort then and he fucking isnt now)

Comment by andy@cynic

I think you have just broken your ‘swearing in a single comment’ record Andy. Congratultions.

Comment by Rob

of course you can. i was talking about me.

i didnt know who he was indeed. but there s always wikipedia to help me out πŸ™‚

Comment by peggy

Yeah I get what you’re saying and Woody Allen is spot on…

I guess what I mean is that it’s far more interesting/inspiring/engaging to me when someone with no agenda or motive other than to do something creative does something like this.

If Gillette was behind this ad, it changes the relationship with the viewer. You start asking what the point of it was from a commercial standpoint, as opposed to what it is now… just one guys personal journey. Which i think is much more interesting to think about.

hey, Saint Andy… has a nice ring to it πŸ˜‰

Comment by Age

I know what you were saying Age, I was just channeling my inner-John Dodds. πŸ™‚

Let’s face it, if Gillette did that ad, your first reaction would be that it was scam … however if it was a brand that was synonomous with doing more interesting, engaging communication … then I don’t know if it would change people’s reaction to it – more likely get them going on about how cool and refreshing the brand is, especially if they helped create the idea rather than simply put their name to it after the event.

Maybe.

And don’t encourage him Age. Please.

Comment by Rob

@Peggy: I’ll only believe it if they say they have shelved an article on Asian women being the new trophy wife. πŸ™‚

Comment by peggy

Yeah, Gillette could never get away with something like that.

I’m just wondering though… what would Andy be Patron Saint of?? πŸ˜‰

Comment by Age

i heard an interview with the guy in the rado a while ago. he did not finish his journey. he had probably learned enough though. it s really amazing what he did – in terms of finding yourself and just doing what you want to and what you believe is right for you.

it s got not that much to do with the post. but he s almost german πŸ˜‰ and talking about the power of time off http://tinyurl.com/ye6j7po

i really like the idea of sabbaticals. more companies should support their employees to do it.

Comment by peggy

i make mother teresa look like a fucking warlord age.

Comment by andy@cynic

can rob answer peggys point on sabbaticals given hes been on one for the last 20 years.

Comment by andy@cynic

Andy. The patron saint of alimony. And swearing.

Comment by Rob

It will be remade. Quickly and with wigs and make up and a green screen. It will lack soul and we will hate it.

Comment by Marcus

Why didn’t a company think of this blog to show how good they are?

Comment by John

Brilliant video.

I’m amazed that King of Shaves haven’t worked out how quickly they could eat up Gillette and Wilkinson Sword (Schick)’s market shares if they did a good campaign…

Comment by Rob Mortimer

To answer your question John, I think most companies realised by NOT doing a blog like this, it shows how good they are.

Thought I’d save you the effort of saying it yourself.

Comment by Rob

Just looking for sponsorship suggestions for you.

Comment by John

Always giving John. Always giving.

Comment by Marcus

yes he is marcus. herpes.

Comment by andy@cynic

that s viral, at least

Comment by peggy

boom fucking tish

Comment by andy@cynic

How much would your hair grow Rob if you didn’t cut it for ages. 2 or 3mm?

Comment by Billy Whizz

Completely missed this as Google Gears doesn’t download vid content but it’s awesome and your point about Gillette is bang on the money although ‘mow the lawn’ by Schick wasn’t bad at all.

Great content.

Comment by Charles
