I know I’ve already written a post for today … I know this is an interview with Piers Morgan, a man whose ego and pompousness knows no bounds, but this interview with a myopic gun fan is utterly depressing.
I hate how they go on and on and on about the 2nd amendment because I’m pretty sure their attitude towards assault weapon ownership has more to do with wanting to feel powerful, dangerous and feared than anything to do with the 2nd amendment.
Besides, the 2nd amendment has a bunch of other things in it that people have happily ignored/moved on from … but where guns are concerned, some people have latched on to that as if it was the oxygen they breathe.
If these people are such democratic advocates, why doesn’t America put it to a vote?
Of course it’s because that even if they lost, the NRA would claim it was all rigged and the issue would continue – and possibly escalate – but while I appreciate it’s the people who kill others with guns rather than guns themselves, the fact is it would be more unlikely to occur with such frighteningly regular occurrence if gun access was severely limited.
Anyway, enough political posturing from me, watch these and weep.

I watched this. For the first time in my life, I found myself agreeing with Piers Morgan.
Comment by George January 9, 2013 @ 9:19 amAmazing isn’t it. I used to hate Piers but after reading his first book [where he acknowledged he was a self promoting fool] and this interview, I hate him a lot less.
He still is a self promoting fool, but I guess in comparison to this guy, he looks calm & considered.
Comment by Rob January 9, 2013 @ 9:29 amThe frightening thing is there are millions of people that agree with Alex Jones view of the World.
Comment by Pete January 9, 2013 @ 9:33 amWasn’t Alex Jones a choirboy?
Comment by DH January 9, 2013 @ 9:33 amthat wouldnt even be funny if you said it in 1984.
Comment by andy@cynic January 9, 2013 @ 9:35 amtheres some us media fuckwits who are saying alex jones owned morgan in that interview. thats even more fucked up than the shit adland spouts about being “all about business”.
Comment by andy@cynic January 9, 2013 @ 9:36 amFox news?
Comment by Pete January 9, 2013 @ 9:45 amThis was less an interview and more a demonstration of bring able to shout without the requirement to draw breath. Everything wrong with extreme gun advocates was on display.
Comment by Lee Hill January 9, 2013 @ 9:38 amThese people express the same zeal as the people they view as a threat to America. Blinded by misguided belief.
Comment by Pete January 9, 2013 @ 9:47 amIsn’t this a snl sketch?
Comment by Billy Whizz January 9, 2013 @ 10:03 amThis interview made me fear for my children’s safety. I am not being dramatic, it gave me genuine cause for concern. The belief that access to guns reduces crime has been proven to be incorrect and yet these people, and millions like them, choose to ignore the facts while proclaiming to state them. How many more innocent lives have to be taken before sanity prevails. How many more excuses can they come up with. I hoped for a positive 2013, this interview has put that in doubt.
Comment by Mary Bryant January 9, 2013 @ 10:10 amLiving in Idaho – Which I refer to as “The Fourth Reich” you have to understand that these people are the norm. The biggest selling thing here after guns, are plastic containers… Why? ‘Cos that’s how “survivalists” store food in their underground bunkers. You can’t make this shit up.
Comment by George Parker January 9, 2013 @ 10:14 amCheers/George “AdScam” Parker
How many times did morgan say, “alex”?
Comment by Hoon Kim January 9, 2013 @ 10:16 amOh… And I forgot… The sales of guns and plastic containers have gone through the roof twice in the last four years… That’s right, after Obama was elected. What a coincidence!!!
Comment by George Parker January 9, 2013 @ 10:17 amCheers/George “AdScam” Parker
automatic fucking weapons sold by the bucketload at christmas because the rednecks thought obama was going to ban them. do you wear a kevlar vest when you go shopping in redneckville?
Comment by andy@cynic January 9, 2013 @ 10:19 am@Andy… I wear my SS Obersturmbannfuhrer uniform and take my three rabid rottweilers with me… No one dare fucking touch me. Don’t forget… Wednesday is Hitler day on “AdScam!”
Comment by George Parker January 9, 2013 @ 10:27 amCheers/George “AdScam” Parker
I’m fairly positive that these people look at movies like 28 days and the Walking Dead and think they’re watching a documentary, where the zombies are actually federal agents in fancy dress.
The comment about 1776 was especially bizarre. I would love to know the background to their upbringing.
Finally, if people like Alex Jones believe the problem with gun crime is because mentally challenged individuals get their hands on them, why don’t they demand the NRA help pay for their treatment and care?
The referendum idea is interesting Rob. It would never happen and even if it did, it would fail for the reasons you highlight. How on earth have we got ourselves in to this situation.

Comment by Oz January 9, 2013 @ 4:22 pmThe US needs to stop confusing the right to free speech with the right to be heard.
Comment by Peter Bray (@PeterBray) January 9, 2013 @ 11:21 amAlex Jones is a clown who backs hardcore Zionist violence and US Semi Automatic Gun ownership. Quite by coincidence I wrote a post criticizing him the day before his (I feel carefully staged) manic performance.

Good to see you raising this kind of content. Debate is good. Wish I knew the full story because the surface story doesn’t add up.
Comment by Charles Frith January 9, 2013 @ 11:28 amI am in no doubt there were behind the scenes activities to encourage this sort of reaction, but the reaction of Alex Jones is not ambiguous, his viewpoint is perfectly and frighteningly clear and that is what is disturbing.
Comment by George January 9, 2013 @ 11:42 amAlex Jones has a clearly delineated narrative as the link I gave exposes. The guns, the defence of ultraviolent Zionism? These are who Alex Jones is.
Comment by Charles Frith January 9, 2013 @ 5:23 pmAlex Jones. Making George W proud.

Comment by cyrilbedat January 9, 2013 @ 11:32 amThis is from Mr Rob Campbell, the opinionated Sod as he stated. Great article there, totally agree with this. I saw the end of that on CNN yesterday as well and it is insane to hear and listen to the arguments of that crazy NRA guy. The second amendment is of course an important part of the US culture but it has been created on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights. 1791 guys, in a time where the colonies had just finished to kick off the Brits out of the place! This never let go attitude on the second amendment is typical of an organisation, group of people who cannot justify anymore why people can bear arms in our time. They will never let go of this and will fight against any change on this article as this is the condition of their survival as an organisation. You remove that article, the NRA is gone. Be prepared Rob to hear and see more and more of this discussion, unless some politician, to not name him Mr Obama would get the rifle on his hands and decide to break it. Will it happen? Maybe, it is his last 4 years, maybe he will find the guts to definitely make a change in this arm culture. I am not a fan of Michael More nor of his movie Bowling for Columbine (2002) on the arms, but despite the manipulation of it, it reminds me of some good points.
You don’t want Robert to hear you insulting Michael Moore.
Comment by George January 9, 2013 @ 11:48 amHAHA, didn’t know he was a fan, shite, hope he will not get his Smith and Weston now and turn it against me for that…
Comment by cyrilbedat January 9, 2013 @ 12:10 pmThis kind of threatening tape used to premier on Al Jazeera, didn’t it? Bit of a coup for CNN.
Comment by Lewis Rosa January 9, 2013 @ 11:52 amI feel sick. this is mortifying. embarrassing.
I’ve heard of ‘these people’ before, but have never met one in person, and now realize I’ve never even seen one on TV either.
Right now, I feel like I can never go home again…
Comment by Katie Dreke January 9, 2013 @ 11:56 amat least youve got the fuck out. this makes my wifes blanada moneypit look like a worthwhile investment. this is all too fucking much for me. goodnight.

Comment by Paul Cox January 9, 2013 @ 12:03 pmWell that’s a surprise not do j now like piers a little but it even makes living in the same country as George Osborne and nick griffin seem a little bit better
Comment by Northern January 9, 2013 @ 1:04 pmThe first line of your comment has me stumped.
Comment by Lee Hill January 9, 2013 @ 1:31 pmAnd me, blame iphone keyboards
Comment by northern January 9, 2013 @ 5:54 pmI found the part where Alex Jones challenged Piers to a boxing match particularly amusing. When he said he would wear the red white and blue colours without realising Piers would be wearing exactly the same highlighted everything wrong with Alex Jones understanding of the world outside of his bubble.
Comment by Lee Hill January 9, 2013 @ 1:31 pmAlex Jones is a repulsive and ignorant human being.
Comment by Nigel Scott January 9, 2013 @ 1:48 pmThis makes me ashamed to be American and frightened to go back.
Comment by Richard McKeefe January 9, 2013 @ 2:19 pmAlex is like a warped Bill Hicks character.
Comment by Marcus January 9, 2013 @ 4:29 pmThat’s the tragedy. A lot of what he said is the truth and Marcus knows that but unfortunately as Katie Dreke’s comment shows somebody who has never encountered a person who understands democide is the planets greatest killer will think he’s nuts. He’s set back intelligent debate on democide forever. Nobody even remembers that he mentions building 7 in the rant. As true a subject as ever needs to be maturely discussed.

Comment by Marcus January 9, 2013 @ 5:23 pmI’ve been in a research meeting all day so to come back and see all these comments from so many people – including people I’ve never seen on here before – is fantastic.
Obviously this highlights that the rubbish I write is not good enough to cause such an effect but it also shows – at least to me – that there are lots and lots of people that passionately care about the society they live in and as an old sentimentalist, that makes me feel very good indeed.
Last thing.
Once upon a time I told a friend of mine I was worried about having children for fear of the World I would introduce them to.
She said the only way to change that outcome is for good people to have kids [yes, she was calling me a ‘good person’] so that we re-balance society in our favour.
I guess the point I’m trying to make is that by reacting to the highly charged comments of Alex Jones, the many good people that inhabit the planet are showing they are not mildly or meekly sitting by, which at the very least is a good deterrent against the bully’s [and media] that seemingly feed on our silence.
Sure, some of us are quiet because we don’t think the bully’s are worth responding to – but there’s a line, a line that Alex Jones passed today – which we should not and can not let be put out in the World without strong opposition.
We are the majority.
We can take action without needing too much effort.
We should do it more often.
I don’t say that comment to you – but to me – which is why I’m so happy to come back and see all the words people have said.
Comment by Rob January 9, 2013 @ 5:43 pmI thought this might be of interest. Alex Jones post Piers Morgan interview. He doesn’t improve. http://tinyurl.com/a98eews
Comment by George January 9, 2013 @ 8:41 pmThat video is amazing. He plays the victimized child for most of the clip and then at 11 minutes, he suddenly morphs into a bad Dirty Harry. Surely no one can believe this conman is real can they?
Comment by Pete January 9, 2013 @ 9:10 pmthat twat doesnt know what hes talking about. theres no fucking sleaze and drugs in nyc anymore. it makes canada look like killadelphia.
Comment by andy@cynic January 9, 2013 @ 9:32 pmHis performance in that response video is worse than his Piers interview. Pathetic man.
Comment by Nigel Scott January 9, 2013 @ 9:38 pmthat’s pretty terrifying.
Comment by Marcus January 9, 2013 @ 9:44 pmThis man is nothing but a school bully who hides behind his mothers skirt when challenged. Everything he says, does and believes disgusts me.
Comment by Mary Bryant January 9, 2013 @ 9:55 pmSuccinctly said.
Comment by Lee Hill January 9, 2013 @ 10:07 pmWell said Mary.
Comment by Pete January 9, 2013 @ 11:01 pmthe mother in law just watched this shit and asked why the gun advocates all act like the last people you would trust with a gun. thats more insight than the average planner right fucking there.
Comment by andy@cynic January 9, 2013 @ 11:58 pmShe makes a good point. The NRA talk about stopping people with mental issues obtaining gun licenses, but they regard Alex Jones as sane. That frightens the hell out of me.
I will say one thing for Mr Jones, he’s encouraged a lot of comments to be made and even more incredibly, they’ve all stayed on topic.
Comment by Pete January 10, 2013 @ 12:09 amThat’s 2 points.
Comment by DH January 10, 2013 @ 12:27 amThe next James Bond villain has been found.
Comment by DH January 9, 2013 @ 10:35 pmNever mind the 2nd Amendment. They should be discussing the 1st!!
Comment by Hoon Kim January 9, 2013 @ 9:33 pmI was sitting with a group of people after the Asia AME awards, having a drink and a chat. One of the group had come over from the States for the conference, but had lived in SE Asia for about ten years before returning to America a few months earlier. Someone asked him how he was finding it at ‘home’, and what the prevailing mood in the US was. He summed it up in four words: “Fat, dumb, angry and armed”. Scary people.
