I like Scamp, well, what I know of him – plus he works for BBH so it’s not like he’s exposed to 3rd rate mediocrity – but his love of Fallon [and I mean LOVE] is bordering on sycophantic because whenever Juan and his chums churn out another of their ‘big idea’ [ahem] executions, he comes over like a 15 year old kid who has just had Angelina Jolie [pre-pregnancy of course] disrobe infront of him and beg to be his sex slave.
It wouldn’t be so bad if the guy wasn’t smart or loved everything adland did in equal amounts, but that’s not the case at all.
Seriously, the way he goes on I wouldn’t be surprised if he became the first human charged with sexual harassment of an agency.
Of course he’s entitled to his opinion and as a lowly planner I obviously know fuck all about creative – however while Fallon’s work is great [well, alot of it] they’re still mainly 30 second television ads and failing to acknowledge this is one of the reasons why adland is losing its relevance in business and influence in society.
Besides, HHCL were consistently producing better work and thinking a decade before but as we all know, history is a dirty word in adland!
This is not meant to be anti-Scamp because as I said, he’s smart, talented and I really like him/blog, but I hope his ‘objective gene’ starts working again because if I hear another non-objective review of a Fallon ad, I’ll either be forced to call him the ‘Oprah of Advertising’ or ring up the CEO of Fallon, Lawrence Green, and offer him cash to put Scamp out of his misery by hiring him.

Besides according to Billy, that ‘title’ is already being fought out between me and Russell. But Billy has more things to concern himself about, like his next job 🙂

I just think it’s incredibly over-rated, especially the way Scamp is going on about it.
To be fair, Fallon aren’t claiming it’s the new messiah or anything – so my waggling finger is aimed purely at those in adland who have no sense of objectivity whatsoever and just are whores to the ‘popular bunch’.
As for the one I had something to do with?
