Eddie Van Halen of Van Halen – being lifted [literally] by the power of music.
I was going to write a load of blurb about why this picture totally captivates me – but I don’t think I could find the words to do it justice – so instead I’ll just say that maybe this picture was the inspiration behind his biggest hit, ‘Jump’
You may hate Van Halen … you may think they were a bunch of talentless, big-haired showoffs … but what I can honestly say is that when they were onstage, they were the happiest band I’ve ever seen – producing an energy that was as exciting as it was infectious – and in all my years of going to gigs, I’ve never come close to experiencing that combination since.
[PS: I don’t know who took this photo, but if someone tells me, I’ll happily credit it]

Comment by andy@cynic March 7, 2008 @ 8:08 amI see the audience have left their seats in a frenzy of um something.
Comment by John March 7, 2008 @ 8:15 amspeaking of talentless big-haired wanker rockers (sorry fred) – toto played in melbourne tonight and my friend and i were walking by when the fan club were presenting some earnest but tacky gift to the main guy (i don’t even know his name – the one who looks like gerry garcia now). so of course we opportunity to barge in, pose next to him, take a photo and the piss out of him and kept on walking!

Comment by lauren March 7, 2008 @ 10:24 pmNot really a fan but I will always credit Van Halen for two things:
A really talented musician in a genre that quickly became image over talent.
Being daring enough to use synthesizers in a rock track and thereby opening up rock music to outside influences it sorely needed. Even if that particular track is now remembered for the wrong reasons.
Comment by Rob Mortimer March 7, 2008 @ 11:18 pmVan Halen is a name I know but not very well. The most I have gotten acquainted with him is through a mini parody series in the cartoon series Dexter’s Laboratory. However, if you say that he was literally lifted by music, then he must be more than a hundred percent immersed in the song. If only more people could translate that sort of passion into their work.
Comment by Jay, writer Memberspeed.com March 10, 2008 @ 12:06 amI’m not sure if Eddie van Halen was being literally lifted by music in this photo, I believe there’s more chance of it being his ego but I understand what you’re saying Jay and I agree, but is it the employees or the employers issue that so mahy people don’t feel that way?
