Natural Irony?

Evian 2007 Special Edition Bottle

After hundreds of years …

Traveling thousands of miles …

Over millions of rocks …

Water is collected by companies …

Packaged and distributed …

All around this great World …

So that people can pay enormous amounts of money …

To enjoy the health benefits of natural spring water …

Before discarding the packaging …

In their billions …

All around the environment …

Of which what is collected …

Goes mainly to landfill …

So while the people get healthier …

Mother Nature becomes sicker …

And that is why …

We’re all guilty …

Of water pollution …

And environmental irony.

I’ve talked about the opportunity for packaging transformation before – but if ever there was a category that should be investing in it, surely it’s the water brands?

what the fuck led to this?
our friends at coke are behaving themselves, your “problem” is not in the water category and weve not pitched for any water client.
nice post though. people forget they are a big part of the problem and yet they continually push the blame on other parties to solve for them.
hypocrites, the whole fucking lot of us.

I like this post Robert, I really do but was the motivation behind writing this to try and fool Mary into thinking you’re really a nice guy so all the blame about “boringness” is left at my feet? It won’t work 🙂
I really love your packaging transformation idea and I am sure if it was embraced by FMCG’s, they’d experience massive shifts in sales and custimer attitudes. Pitch it to Tesco, they are probably the most open to this sort of thing at the moment.

Andy in serious[ish] comment SHOCK!

I’m not exactly saying anything new – people have been talking about this sort of thing for bloody ages – but I do feel a the public are very quick to cast ‘blame’ on the corporations and demand them to take action when in many cases, the companies are simply acting in their shareholders best interests, who ironically are often the very people who are the most vocal in claiming corporate irresponsibility.

I call them the ‘Champagne Socialists’ and I’ve written about this a load of times, but if you really need reminding you can see it here …

What puzzles me is how water that has spent millions of years filtering through rocks can have a best before date of a few weeks…

Good post though. Youd think they would try and find the most environmentally friendly packaging to go with their natural image.

I’ve just had lunch with the BBH CEO and talked about this issue because they handle so much Unilever business and he said he is going to put this to them and let us know the response.

Lets hope this doesn’t make him the soon-to-be EX CEO of BBH or that will be someone else I have to convince Andy to let me hire, ha!

Green, pink, blue, red – I’m an equal opportunity money maker – you should know that by now!

And have you sorted Sony out on this issue yet?

Comment by John

I take it you’re referring to this John …

And as for SONY, I have mentioned it but I’ve been preoccupied on some other client but getting back to our Japanese friends so will push it.

I know you’re desperate for fame and acclaim John so I won’t forget 🙂

Comment by Rob

I was indeed – just adding a little levity into the rather cranky/hostile proceedings today. And I’ll pass on the fame and acclaim as long as the money’s right.

With talk like that, our financial director would love you John!

Would I love her?
