… you wanted it to go at a micro pace – not because everything was going so well, but because you didn’t want something to end?
Have you ever had a day where the thought of ‘home time’ caused every part of your body to painfully tense up – not because you were excited, but because you were scared?
Have you ever had a day where you relentlessly talked to someone – not because you had lots to say, but because you were worried you’d never speak to them again?
Have you ever had a day where you kept passing a particular office – not because you were busy, but because you wanted to fill your mind with their image?
Have you ever had a day where a look said more than words – not because you were unable to speak, but because there were things that could not be said?
Have you ever felt pangs of guilt – not because you’ve done something wrong, but because you felt you could?
Have you ever felt love with a stranger – not because of what you did, but because of what you shared?
Have you ever craved someone then watched them walk away?
Have you ever been in love but never spoken up?
Have you ever felt so alive?
Have you ever felt so alone?
Have you ever … ?
[To you-know-who … be true to yourself, live for now not for maybe’s – and know there’s lots of us there to catch you if you fall. Now go chase your sunshine … ]

For a man who eats wax apples and can make my husband pull his hair out, you have an amazing ability to show your warmth, care and kindness.
This post is beautiful and I hope whoever it is for finds the happiness they are looking for in their lives.
Here’s hoping we can all get together soon, please say hello to Jill and know you are a living, breathing gemini. 😉
Love Mary x

Comment by andy@cynic August 7, 2007 @ 6:07 amTwo rather different interpretations/reactions from members of your fan club. One female and one male.
Comment by fredrik sarnblad August 7, 2007 @ 6:22 amAre you fucking mad Fred? I can only just about put up with Rob when he is in Geldof mode, going on about his “fan club” might turn him into some Oprah spouting bitch and then everything collapses. Nice post though Rob, I know who its about and you hit the nail on the head.
Comment by Billy Whizz August 7, 2007 @ 8:11 amwho is it about?
Comment by andy@cynic August 7, 2007 @ 9:15 amI am well aware of the seriousness of a full scale Oprah situation, Billy. Fully aware. We’ve lived with an orange alert for a while. But with all the love going around on this blog [including yours above] as well as the amount of time many of us spend here, we may have to come to terms with the fact that we’re beyond the point of no return.
What may neutralise the impact of the situation, however, is a carefully planned and coordinated launch of the Neurofen campaign across the US, Europe, Australasia, the Middle East and Africa. This would infuriate one person in particular, which could potentially bring us from an Oprah state towards a slightly more manageable Oprah-Geldoff state. The sudden and complete collapse of McCann is an event which could have similar affects. But neither will happen spontaneously. Both require resources, let alone people who believe in this cause. Ad men of the world, unite!
Rob, I’ll have to agree with Mary that this is a beautiful post. I know this makes me gay in Andy’s opinion and that it could aggravate the Oprah situation. So be it.
Comment by fredrik sarnblad August 7, 2007 @ 10:29 amHey Fredrik, I was thinking the same thing the other day. I’m not sure what is going on here but its deffo past the point of no return. Its the new Star Trek for digital frontiers..or something like that. Its also dead brave of Rob to come out on his blog too 😉
Comment by Charles Frith August 7, 2007 @ 1:57 pmEven if I was gay and wanted to get into the closet, I couldn’t … Tom Cruise is in there and he’s not willing to budge.
And if this blog is anything, it’s more the home for abuse and vindictiveness than the future of anything to do with communication – unless that IS the future of communication, hahaha!
Andy … saying this doesn’t mean I am gay – it shows my ‘sensitive side’ and that gets the chicks almost as successfully as having millions of dollars in the bank, even if you’re a fat shit 🙂
Comment by Rob August 7, 2007 @ 3:02 pmWith posts like this im happy to see Rob get near an Oprah situation. But if he starts recommending self help books I will start funding Andy to bring him down.
Comment by Rob Mortimer August 7, 2007 @ 3:03 pmAs Frank T J Mackie says in Magnolia, prentending to be nice andf caring is a great way of getting some bush.
Comment by NP August 7, 2007 @ 4:27 pmI think I prefer being called a puff than being seen as some potential emotional manipulator whose only aim is to fulfil his own personal agenda even if innocent, trusting individuals are hurt and used in the process.
And even though I work in advertising, that isn’t what I do in my job – hell that’s one of the reasons I started cynic in the first place 🙂
Comment by Rob August 7, 2007 @ 4:38 pmAJ’s not buying a word of this you know!
Comment by John Dodds August 7, 2007 @ 4:39 pmOK John … you have proved some of your detective powers [see my comment about ‘Congratulations to Bazza’] now see if you can work out who put the cock in modesty [if you are a dyslexic and spell it that way]
PS: AJ … this is not a ruse to get you to say yes – ignore what that John Dodds says, he’s just jealous and nasty and errrrrrrm, well just ignore him, OK?
Comment by Rob August 7, 2007 @ 4:43 pmSarah rang me to say how romantic this post was and it was only when I pointed out that it seemed to be about someone in love with someone they shouldn’t that she stopped going on about it. 🙂
Comment by Pete August 7, 2007 @ 5:13 pmI don’t care what the “boys” say, this is beautiful and I hope one day, I get to meet a guy who feels this way about me. Well, as long as it doesn’t break up any good relationship I’m in or turns into some stalking episode like you are doing with Angelina 😉
Comment by Jemma King August 7, 2007 @ 7:43 pmJemma x
Jemma – you wouldn’t meet him because he wouldn’t have spoken up – that’s why andy’s assessment is right!
Comment by John Dodds August 7, 2007 @ 8:01 pmThanks for crushing my hopes and dreams John.
Comment by Jemma King August 7, 2007 @ 8:09 pmJemma x
You already have that reaction from most of the guys in the office Jemma, you’re just too fussy with your “tastes” to give us any confidence in speaking up. Don’t tell me, we’re all like fucking brothers to you.
Comment by Billy Whizz August 7, 2007 @ 8:15 pmIn a way its justice. Most girls totally ignore the guys that act nicely like that until the age of about 20, then wonder why there are no good men about. You just didnt pay them any attention.
Though im sure Jemma is better than that. /get out clause
Comment by Rob Mortimer August 7, 2007 @ 8:16 pmBilly you are a total cutey and I find it so hard to contain my attraction for you but we work together so it’s impossible to let our love flourish even if there is no policy against it. 😉
Comment by Jemma King August 7, 2007 @ 8:30 pmJemma x
While I am not like that Rob, I am worth making a fool over 🙂
Comment by Jemma King August 7, 2007 @ 8:30 pmJemma x
Subtle. Thanks. Bitch. 🙂
Comment by Billy Whizz August 7, 2007 @ 8:44 pmJemma is like the female Andy. (thats personality, not looks…I hope for your sake 😉 . but it was a compliment!)
Comment by Rob Mortimer August 7, 2007 @ 8:52 pmJemma is nothing like Andy except in taking the piss and managing to get you to do all the shit work.
Comment by Billy Whizz August 7, 2007 @ 8:53 pmIsn’t that what guys do Jemma – crush hopes and dreams, destroy self-esteem and still have women swooning over them?
Comment by John Dodds August 7, 2007 @ 9:00 pmBilly… I thought that WAS Andy?
Comment by Rob Mortimer August 7, 2007 @ 9:03 pmThat is Andy, but Jemma is a babe and Andy is less so. (But you are devilishly handsome boss)
Comment by Billy Whizz August 7, 2007 @ 10:19 pmi seem to think you have the urge to get another sausage sandwich and magazine. am i right or are you about to be fucking sacked?
Comment by andy@cynic August 7, 2007 @ 10:28 pmInsulting AND brown nosing in the same sentence… thats impressive Billy. You should make a discount deal with the sandwich company though.
Comment by Rob Mortimer August 7, 2007 @ 10:46 pmif you can see it mortimer, i hope to fuck billy does. actually i dont mind, i get something out of it, but my wife is cracking major fucking shits as im supposed to be on a health drive and he keeps having to fucking feed me. 🙂
Comment by andy@cynic August 7, 2007 @ 10:48 pmNo worries. Quorn sausages are much healthier, even chicken/turkey sausages have less fat without losing much taste.
The sausage diet 😀 Marcus would be proud.
Comment by Rob Mortimer August 7, 2007 @ 11:16 pmhave you been to nyc mortimer? low fat sausages would be seen as an act of terrorism and even if the yanks liked them, i wouldnt. has my wife been talking to you? got a meeting now so enough fucking about on here, see you tomorrow.
Comment by andy@cynic August 7, 2007 @ 11:26 pmNo, sadly. It on my list of places I want to go.
Good point though. No Andy, im trying to find a way to keep you and your wife happy. If i could do that, surely I could achieve anything!
Comment by Rob Mortimer August 7, 2007 @ 11:38 pmIt always makes me a little sad when Rob does this we behave like dicks. If I didn’t, for a fact, know that we all love him (in a non-gay way Andy) then I would get really fucking angry about it.
I like it when Rob rants, but I like this stuff more. It’s difficult, raw and honest. It says about about him as it does about the person he’s talking about – it’s actually Rob at his best.
Shame he eats wax fruit and makes a tit of himself.
Comment by marcusbrown August 8, 2007 @ 6:23 amWho you calling a dick?
Comment by John Dodds August 8, 2007 @ 4:04 pmJust like Andy isn’t really satan, Rob isn’t really about hate.
He’s actually an emotional and sentimental bugger who simply wants justice/respect for those he feels deserve it. I know lots of people (including a few clients) think he’s just about anti mediocrity but there’s much more to him than that, probably because of the parental values he had shoved onto him from day one. 🙂
I know what you’re saying Marcus, but rest assured, the fact he doesn’t say anything about these sort of comments shows he sees us as friends because when that is not the case, I’ve seen how he reacts and it makes Andy look almost pleasant 🙂
Now more importantly, how is everything with the little one? Hope it’s going OK.
