A while back I wrote a post on how to get over nervousness in presentations.
In the next few weeks, I hope to write some more about this issue – including the importance of drama and theatre – however till then, take a look at one of the best speeches ever committed to film.
OK … OK … I appreciate its from a movie [‘Any Given Sunday’ if you’re interested] … made by Hollywood [Oliver Stone to be exact] … featuring one of the most amazing actors of our generation [Al Pacino] … but putting all that aside, watching this clip can teach you so much about ‘presentation magnetism’ that if you’re not inspired by it, I advise you to check into a hospital quicksmart, and make sure your heart is still beating!
Thanks to Lee for finding the clip, I’ve been meaning to look for it on YouTube for ages.

Ah man! Rob, I’ve already got an Age’s Awesome Movie Moments piece for this exact scene sitting in my drafts folder!
Absolute classic. I will email you the MP3 of it.
Comment by Age July 11, 2007 @ 10:21 amGiven you were so great in Cannes, I think you should film one of your presentations to demonstrate how the principals in this clip can be adopted and used in more humble situations. This clip should be shown to all marketers who think emotions can’t cause a positive reaction.

Comment by Rob Mortimer July 11, 2007 @ 3:01 pmI use Pacino’s “Inches” speech all the time in my public speaking class. It never fails to inspire.
