NEWSFLASH: I Have Influence …

Magic Test #1

At first I thought it was just coincidence that Starbucks changed their Pumpkin Coffee after I’d slagged it off on my blog.

Then I felt like I had some sort of power when Prudential changed the bulbs in their signage after I’d ridiculed it on my blog.

Now I’m certain I AM A GOD because Rob Mortimer’s gone and proposed to his missus of years and years and years mere weeks after I’d mentioned my act of love on my blog.

I am a weapon of mass destruction … or mass consumption more like.

Well done Rob, absolutely brilliant news from me and all the gang at cynic.

Thanks! I am rather chuffed!

Im not sure how much influence your blog had, but if it will make you happy not to label it a nice coincidence then I wont!

Comment by Rob Mortimer

Well done Mr M. Excellent news. Sacrum sends his warmness too. Which is really rather nice of him.

Well done.

Comment by Marcus Brown

Ahh, so that explains the cryptic nature of the email I’ve just got from you.

Well done, that’s fantastic news but make sure Rob doesn’t take any credit for it (which lets face it, he can’t) because he’ll become as annoying as Andy plus you run the risk of being called Mini-Rob for eternity. Though aren’t you bloody tall? If that is the case, maybe we can call you Giant-Rob instead.

I do find it rather uncomfortable congratulating you on Rob’s blog. This “community” is rather strange isn’t it?

Great news, enjoy it all, marriage is a wonderful, wonderful thing but then I never married manipulative women like Andy, did I? 🙂

Comment by George

Thanks Marcus and Sacrum!
Thanks George!

Im 6 foot 3 ish, so im rarely mini-rob!
Dont be uncomfortable, Rob asked if he could post about it and I said it was alright.

True, but you dont look like Andy either… (JOKE!)

Comment by Rob Mortimer

George … are you still suffering from Delhi Belly because you have flashes of Andyness about you these days, and I’ve only ever seen that when you’ve been loo-bound for a few days, ha!

And to be fair to Andy, the manipulative women he married were very, very, very, very hot. Not that he/I are shallow – oh no. Ahem.

[PS: Jill, in no way am I NOT calling you hot – you are a babe, I love you and you are also a wonderfully kind, caring, considerate woman. The same goes to both Mary’s – we are all very, very lucky to have you and we will never forget it. How can we, you remind us each and every day, ha!]

Comment by Rob

That’s it Rob … kick Andy when he’s out of town … that’s the spirit, ha!

Comment by Rob

I’ve never been so insulted in my life. Oh yes I have, a few days ago. By you again. Bottom is all clear now (that sounds so wrong) so maybe it’s the jetlag that is giving me Andylike characteristics?

Good point about the women and that its good to kick someone when they’re down or out.

Comment by George

Love is in the air.

Congratulations to you and yours Robert “the giant”* Mortimer.

*Compared to Robert Campbell

Comment by Pete

Careful Rob!
Less of a kick than a humourous nudge…

Comment by Rob Mortimer

You might be a giant – but with comments like that, you’re a wimp interms of toughness, ha!

Comment by Rob

Im happy to be a giant with an aside!
Thanks Pete!

Ah now, I be no wimp.. I just hold my true rage for my enemies!

Comment by Rob Mortimer

Congratulations! Rob M, and I’m sure you’ll have a great time being married. As for Rob reporting it on his blog, you’ll be fine as long as we don’t learn that you did it via some sad ‘Magic’ trick.

Comment by Hari

hahah! Thanks Hari!

No I didnt! My last magic show was when I was 10… I intend to keep it that way!

Comment by Rob Mortimer

Congratulations Rob! Excellent news.

I have to agree with George, marriage is a wonderful, wonderful thing provided you marry the right woman….the non-manipulative kind. Take Carlos Santana’s advice as he puts it in “The Sensitive Kind”.

Comment by fredrik sarnblad

Thanks Fredrik!
Im not doing an Andy, dont worry!

Not a Santana fan, but i’ll give it a listen… 🙂

Comment by Rob Mortimer

hey rob m – congrats! and i also feel a bit weird sending congratulations here, so i’ll probably double it on your blog..
l.xx

PS. nice dig hari..

Comment by lauren

It’ll be worth your while, Rob….I hope. I’m not a Santana fan either actually, but I really like that song.

Comment by fredrik sarnblad

Thanks Lauren, I have to post about it tonight!

I’ll take your word for it Fredrik! 😉

Comment by Rob Mortimer

Fred – why don’t you tell everyone who you ARE a fan of … that might help put some perspective into what you are suggesting.

Yes folks … TOTO!

That’s why the man has a notice on his door [which admitidly, I put up] that states:

“BORN TO BE MILD”

Comment by Rob

Haha!

Did you hear the story about Toto going to Japan?
They were excited to find posters saying Toto everywhere, til they found out that Toto was a brand of toilet…

Comment by Rob Mortimer

which is fitting considering their music is shit.

Comment by Marcus Brown

Indeed.
Though I know not of the music taste of Marcus or indeed Sarcum!

Comment by Rob Mortimer

I’d of thought Marcus/Sacrum BOTH would of subscribed to Kraut-tunes – however after seeing Marcus’ comment about the mighty SCORPIONS on Freddie’s blog, I just don’t know what would ‘rock-his-boat’ … but if it’s The Smiths, I will fucking murder him, his family and everyone associated with him.

Thank you

Comment by Rob

*raises lighter for chorus of wind of change*

Kraftwerk and David Hasselhoff for Sacrum?

I dont understand your hatred of the Smiths, their sarcasm and wit is very often in your style Rob.

Comment by Rob Mortimer

I FUCKING DETEST MORRISSEY WITH EVERY FIBRE IN MY BODY! [But I’m getting treatment for it!]

Comment by Rob

ok, I’m willing to take another thrashing (still hurting over my magic thumb) so here we go:

Tom Waits is God, I’m very fond of Nick Cave same is true for Jim White. I have been known to very excited by System of a Down and I have written, at length about my love for Nirvana. Early “Madness” can make me weep with joy as does anything by the Specials, the Who or the Jam. Joy Division and The Fall have a place at the Sausage table.

I hate, with everything I have, THE SMITHS.

So, away you go. Pull me to bits.

Comment by Marcus Brown

From all the ladies at cynic, we would like to pass on our congratulations to you Mr Mortimer for your wonderful news. We wish all the very best in your and your ladies lives.

Comment by Katerina

I second Katerina’s comments. Well done Rob.

Comment by Jemma King

Ladies? Only one! 😉
But thank you Katerina and Jemma!

What is he building in there Marcus…what is he building?

NIck cave is cool, System of a Down are great, actually, most of your taste is great. I still dont understand WHY you hate the Smiths though.

Comment by Rob Mortimer

would you like to take on the Smiths Mr. Campbell or shall I?

Comment by Marcus Brown

So love is in the air is it Pete? Not in my fucking household it isn’t. Its as cold as a witches tit there.

Last time I wrote on this blog was when Rob got engaged, now it’s another Rob. Why the hell do the Rob’s seem to get all the luck?

Comment by Bazza

Either will do…

Comment by Rob Mortimer

I’m NOT asking you Mortimer! Just ’cause you’ve got enganged!

Comment by Marcus Brown

Lets combine and kill ’em Marcus. And everyone who likes them. And everyone who thinks Johnny Marr is a good guitarist.

Comment by Rob

Baz, could it be because you always wear black, look like a smile has never been on your face and basically think the world is terrible?

Apart from that, you’re one hunk of love and I’d do you in a second.

Comment by Jemma King

Ok I’ll do round 1.

Morrissey is an arse. Questions anyone? No, thought not.

Over to you Mr. C

Comment by Marcus Brown

Bazza … women DO love you.

OK, so it’s your Mum and Granny, but it’s a start.

Comment by Rob

I can’t even bring myself to give that man any publicity on this blog … lets just say it’s a SMITHS FREE ZONE. Please.

Comment by Rob

Well I won’t be posting on this again in a hurry.

Comment by Bazza

Your comment made me smile Jemma.

Comment by Bazza

Ahhhhhhh, young love blossoming in cynic.

Makes my one eye water.

Comment by Rob

xoxox

Comment by Jemma King

Well yes, he is an arse; but an amusing one at that.

I’ll accept a smiths free zone if you explain why its needed!

Comment by Rob Mortimer

Go on Jemma … talk about your boyfriend just as Baz gets his hopes up.

Comment by Rob

Poor Baz, maybe Andy can give him some tips!

Comment by Rob Mortimer

I just hate the Smiths … more because everyone said they were so amazing than because their music sucked, but that helped as well, hahaha.

Same feeling towards REM too – bunch of overated bastards appealing to image-obsessed tossers with no appreciation of soul, energy or passion in music who only hit it big because of some exposure in shite like 90120 or whatever it was called. [Though even I admit to liking ‘Drive’]

Comment by Rob

“I really like you Baz, but I see you more as a friend and I am already in a relationship…”

Comment by Jemma King

You’re not allowed to have fun at work, didn’t you all know that? Back to the grind stone please, I have 3 daughters to feed.

Comment by George

OH THAT IS BRILLIANT Jemma.

Now I know why Andy wanted to hire you so badly.

Right enough of all that, I have to go home and get the dinner.

Not that I’m under-the-thumb, oh no. Ahem.

Comment by Rob

Jemma, you said you “do him in a second”

Comment by Marcus Brown

It’s called “charity”
Sorry Baz.
Jemma
x

Comment by Jemma King

Agree about REM, but as much as the Smiths were very overrated, I think they did make a few very good songs.

Anyway, enough about them…

Comment by Rob Mortimer

ouch.

Comment by Marcus Brown

🙁

Comment by Bazza

But you’re still hot in a freaky cool kind of way.

Comment by Jemma King

That’s right children. Kiss and make up.

Comment by George

🙂

Comment by Bazza

Haha! What an odd end to a post about my engagement.

Speaking of engagement, feeling any better Rob?

Comment by Rob Mortimer

Hi mate … yes, totally better now thank you. Which is possibly an even worse way to end this post about your engagement, ha!

Comment by Rob

Late to this, too many comments to wade through.
BUT Smiths overated Mr Mortimer? Can’t let that pass. I like them, which helps, but they’ve had tremendous influence on too many bands to mention. Now MORRISEY overated has some credence.
Rob C, use your newfound influence and blog about me suddenly getting good at football.

Comment by NP

NP – YOU ARE GOOD AT FOOTBALL.

You’ll be signed up by Dennis Wise for your beloved Leeds in no time now. Mind you, given their bottom-of-the-table position, you might find you were already better than most of the squad.

Hope all is well and life/work is ‘settling down’ a tad.

Comment by Rob

what a crazy comment thread this turned out to be!!

rob c – so nice to see that you agree that morrissey a fucking wanker.
rob m – did you steal that kraftwerk/hasselhoff quote from high fidelity?!
jemma – you’re good, really good. and when i say good, i mean evil!

Comment by lauren

well done mortimer

Comment by andy@cynic

jem, your evil brings a happy tear to my eye. what a great hire you are turning out to be.

Comment by andy@cynic

No I didnt! But I do like that film!

Thanks Andy!
